Every heirloom tells a story. Sometimes we can even hear echoes of a lifetime.

Heirlooms are something that we can all identify with, no matter what our background. No matter how diverse our origins may seem, we all share a tradition of passing down stories from generation to generation.

We would like to hear about your family heirloom for an innovative animation series funded by the Australian Film Commission and SBS, Heirlooms: Pieces of Time. The 13 most engaging stories will be selected to feature in this unique animation series.

The 13 selected heirloom stories will represent the diverse cultural background of Australia: from descendants of first settlers to indigenous Australians; post war immigrants to recent refugees.

Although each story will unravel the unique journey and meaning of a family heirloom, these individual experiences will act as scenes from a common tapestry, sharing an emotional thread that informs the question of our cultural identity.

Each of the 13 stories will be told through the voice over of the interviewee guiding the visuals of the film. The visual story will be told through the art of animation featuring the heirloom itself.

Heirlooms, no matter how small, offer an invaluable insight into our past to better prepare us for the direction of our future. This is your chance to tell your family heirloom story to future generations.

To submit your heirloom story, send an email describing your heirloom and its personal significance (max 500 words) to Wendy Chandler: info@parasolproductions.com.au

Further information can be obtained from our website: www.parasolproductions.com.au

The director, Susan Danta and producer, Wendy Chandler are award-winning animation filmmakers. Both have received local and international awards for their animation films.
