MIFF and the Australian New Wave

Let's take a punt and name it. The range of new Australian films made over the last couple of years is now a movement, and it is coming together at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

There is a special silvery sigh that came again and again across the assembled Melbourne International Film tragics as they were introduced to the 2019 program in the Forum Theatre earlier this week. It is a kind of astral choir, a shared exhalation, which combines young and old, male and female, farmers and hipsters.
