Mystify, the Michael Hutchence documentary, has made almost $500,000, of which $120,000 came from festivals and previews, which boils down to $3234/per off 114 screens. That is pretty good, and word of mouth could keep it rolling along. Andrew De Groot at production company Ghost Pictures has his fingers crossed that the full houses are enough to trigger an overseas cinema release. For the core team of Richard Lowenstein, Lynn-Maree Milburn and De Groot, this film is a true labour of love. John Battsek, a major documentary producer who runs the documentary side of international company Passion Pictures is on board as well, which augurs well for a global presence.
