Box Office 21 January 2019 – Storm Boy reprises first version

Storm Boy is a tad fragile but came out well enough to provide hope and will probably have a long life.

Image: training the original stars of Storm Boy. The NFSA has a lovely article on the production.

Despite some grumpy reviews, Storm Boy hit the holiday audience fairly well. It made $1.22m from Sony’s wide release on 320 screens, which earnt it $3,800/screen. It can’t afford to drop too far or the exhibitors will turn on it. Fortunately there not much new coming out next weekend. I wish Richard Kuiper’s Variety review was in a local paper because he loved it like cinematic catnip.
