Gearhouse Broadcast has chosen Camera Corps to provide speciality equipment for the eighth series of ITV's autumn reality television programme I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!. The contract includes a large number of miniature 16:9 cameras configured for day and night shooting, plus robotic heads and a newly developed high-efficiency multi-channel control system. The control system allows each of the 75 cameras to be accessed from up to four operator control panels. Any of the four operators can control any of the 75 remote cameras pan, tilt, zoom and focus. Up to four CCU panels are also provided for engineering control and these can control any of the camera types being used.

"The series is set in the high temperature and high humidity of the Australian rainforest which creates a tough environment for the production team and the equipment as well as the contestants," comments Camera Corps' Managing Director Laurie Frost. "We worked on the original series in 2002 so we know the challenges. The camp has been flooded during each of the past two years. When I spoke to our colleagues out there, Cameron McGrath and David Sisson, they had experienced almost continuous rain for the previous three days.
"We sent out 75 cameras including 39 infra-red cameras for night shots and some of our own-brand Minizooms. Rigging began two weeks before the series went to air with cameras being positioned around the camp and along a forest-ceiling walkway. Contestant trials are held in various locations and the cameras for these are positioned as and when required. All of our heads are designed to provide smooth on-air accelleration and tracking which are vital for live follow-shots. All our heads are designed to provide smooth acceleration, tracking and deceleration under precise joystick control. That includes diagonal tracking with no vertical or horizontal stepping. We had special 180 mmendoscope lenses made for the China Games archery to go inside the bullseye. These are used to televise contestants' hands exploring inside boxes which they cannot themselves see inside. When the ITV series completes, we will re-rig for a German version in the same location."
