Cheeky Little Media: raising the ambient temperature of kids’ animation

Behind the announcement by David Webster and Patrick Egerton that they have established a new children’s television outfit called Cheeky Little Media is the story of a very long obsession. And the changing fortunes of both the post-production sector and Omnilab.

The company, as the pair announced, hits the ground running with three original properties which are close to production, and another which will be taken to MIPCOM in a few days. Of these, Bottersnikes & Gumbles is the best known. It carries a deal with Network Seven, with Dirt Cake Entertainment doing the international sales.

The story of Cheeky Little Media really started twenty-two years ago when David Webster started Ambience Entertainment. “We started as a post-production company,” he said on the phone, “and we became involved with character animation, and then became consumed by it.”
