The 8th Latin American Film Festival kicks off at the New Zealand Film Archive in Wellington on Thursday 1 October with Omerta and The Black Butterfly. Repping Mexico, Guillermo del Toro’s “auspicious and audacious feature debut Cronos, a highly unorthodox tale of the seductiveness of eternal life” screens on Saturday 3 and Friday 9.

Seven films, one each from from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, Peru and Spain, will screen during the festival. The festival has a grand opening at the Embassy Theatre in Wellington on 30 September then runs until Saturday 10 October. After that, the festival heads off to Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin and New Plymouth, winding up in November.
