The government announced the 2010-11 budget yesterday, to muted sounds of opposition and disagreement about its likely effectiveness. The cultural sector fared about as well as could have been expected, which is to say the knife – previously seen hovering – was returned to its sheath without drawing blood.

The two agencies most influential (as in splashing most cash around) in the screen sector, the Film Commission (NZFC) and New Zealand On Air (NZOA) received standstill funding.
