WWE 2K26 will introduce a host of new match types to the franchise, alongside improvements to interactive elements, expanded crowd and barrier fighting, new AI-driven move sequences, and a new-to-series battle pass.

These changes were revealed in the first ‘Ringside Report‘ for the upcoming game, outlining how Visual Concepts and 2K Games will attempt to upstage WWE 2K25.

What’s new in WWE 2K26?

Each year, 2K attempts to improve on the WWE game formula, adding in new options to compel players to purchase yet another annual release. This process has been going on for over a decade, with new features added every year, to the point where WWE 2K releases are stacked with content.

Every new entry brings new match types, the occasional new game mode, new wrestlers, new collectibles, new Showcases, and more. With so much content available, and usually only marginal visual improvements between releases, there has to be a reason for players to move up to the next release.

There’s a few new features that may tempt players this year.

First up, new match types. WWE 2K26 will introduce four new matches, each with their own end goal:

  • Inferno Matches – These are standard wrestling matches, with the addition of roaring flames that grow hotter the longer the fight goes, wearing down wrestlers.
  • I Quit Matches – These are submission-based matches where players can only win by damaging opponents enough to make them say, ‘I Quit!’.
  • Dumper Matches – These are matches that only end when you force your opponent into a dumpster, and close the lid.
  • 3 Stages of Hell matches – These are best-of-three bouts that task you with surviving three rounds of grappling, and winning at least two rounds.

Beyond these matches, 2K has also promised an array of improvements elsewhere, the most notable being a reduction in invisible boundaries around the ring. Where previously, games locked you out of certain areas, it appears there’ll be more freedom in WWE 2K26, with the option to climb high, and wander further.

To that end, there’s also improved barricade and crowd-based fighting, so you can take your battles wherever you please. With some of the stages appearing larger than usual – there’s an intriguing forest stage in early gameplay trailers – this new feature should serve players well.

Another new feature worth mentioning is that WWE 2K26 will introduce new ‘AI sequence’ tools that allow you to string together moves in a sequence, to better define the movesets of custom characters. This should allow you to add some personality to your wrestlers, making them unique in combat.

WWE 2K26 will feature a Ringside (Battle) Pass

Another big change for WWE 2K26 – one which is likely to be received with a bit less enthusiasm – is that it will feature a Ringside Pass, otherwise known as a Battle Pass. This is new to the series, and is part of an effort to ‘evolve’ the way DLC is delivered.

Per 2K, there will be free and premium tracks of rewards, defined by seasons. All players will gain access to the free track by default, with this offering ’60 rewards across 40 tiers and some of those rewards featuring bundles of content.’

Players will unlock rewards by collecting ‘RXP’ (Ringside Experience) by ‘simply playing matches across most game modes, so long as they have an online connection.’ Wins grant additional RXP, allowing players to progress along a track.

Those on the premium track, available by purchasing a Ringside Premium Pass can earn additional content, including ‘the new DLC Superstars, CAS Parts, Island taunts, Personas, and more.’ There will be 60 additional rewards on top of the free track.

Where previously, new DLC Superstars were available as additional purchases, they will now be unlockable on the premium Ringside Pass system. The first character of each pack will automatically be added for Ringside Pass purchasers, but the rest need to be earned by unlocking the first 20 tiers of the track.

Those keen to learn more about the new Ringside Pass system, and all the other changes coming to WWE 2K26, may find their questions answered on the WWE 2K website.

As previously announced, WWE 2K26 is set to launch for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 on 13 March, with early access for players who pre-order beginning on 6 March.
