Wholesome Games has announced the return of the annual Wholesome Direct. This year’s showcase will take place on 6 June, with the 2026 show set to once again spotlight new and upcoming cosy games from around the world.

The showcase is a major headliner of the Summer Game Fest season and it tends to steal the show with its curation of bright, colourful and creative games.

Any keen gamer looking for something interesting, puzzling, cute or adventurous will likely find plenty to get on with during Wholesome Direct 2026. The show is typically great for building wishlists, offering a chance to see what cool new ideas are cooking at various studios beyond the ‘big names’ usually shown off in other SGF sessions.

What to expect of Wholesome Direct 2026

Organisers describe Wholesome Direct 2026 as a ‘one-of-a-kind showcase delivering uplifting and cosy games’. The latest promo artwork shows off tiny critters in a woodland realm foraging for mushrooms, collecting items and playing together, which encapsulates the vibe and tone of the games likely to be showcased this year.

Beyond these clues, we know a bunch of companies are sponsoring this year’s event, with many likely to reveal games during the event. They include Annapurna Interactive, Devolver Digital, Marvelous Games, ustwo games, Netflix and Playstack.

We also know developers Spry Fox (Cozy Grove, Spirit Crossing), Frontier Developments (Planet Coaster), NPC Studio (Fields of Mistria), Shoreside Studio (Pelican Post), and Stray Fawn Studio (The Wandering Village) are on board to participate, among others.

While purely speculation, these names could mean something for the Monument Valley series, or the Story of Seasons series. We could also see more of the Marvelous-published Moonlight Peaks, the Netflix-published Spirit Crossing, and other in-development titles.

As for established titles, the Wholesome Games team has confirmed a bunch of games will reveal fresh news during the show, including Usagi Shima, Is This Seat Taken? and Milki Delivery.

Of course, the best part of Wholesome Games is always the surprises, whether new titles from established studios, entirely new adventures or experimental works. Wholesome Direct is all about the journey and the discoveries made along the way.

Is This Seat Taken? was designed, in a lab, to tickle my particular brain stem. It’s a game all about organisation, and for those who rule themselves strictly, it’s an excellent smorgasbord of tiny challenges. From design to execution, this puzzle game is very tight and precise. It’s the perfect length. The perfect level of challenge. And it doesn’t forget to be light-hearted and charming, even in its rigidity.
