The future of the Tomb Raider franchise will be revealed at The Game Awards 2025, as confirmed within the official The Game Awards Vote in Fortnite map portal. In an image posted by host Geoff Keighley, a silhouette of Lara Croft was revealed with a brief confirmation that more news will arrive later this week.

What is The Game Awards teasing for Tomb Raider?
For now, it’s unclear what this Fortnite teaser is referring to, though there are a number of possibilities. We know Prime Video has been developing a Tomb Raider TV series for quite some time, with Game of Thrones‘ Sophie Turner attached to star as the titular hero.
We also know studio Crystal Dynamics has been developing a new Tomb Raider game over the past few years, and it’s very possible this could be the subject of The Game Awards reveal. The new Tomb Raider adventure was announced in 2022 and so far, all we’ve seen is a peek at a new design for Lara Croft, which combines elements of all of her classic video game looks.

The silhouette shared in The Game Awards reveal matches up with the new design fairly well, so it wouldn’t be a leap to suggest Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming game will get its first trailer during The Game Awards.
That said, it’s worth noting this latest Tomb Raider adventure has been plagued by challenges that may have delayed a reveal, and we could still see something else during The Game Awards.
Crystal Dynamics has recently been impacted by significant layoffs
Over the past few years, Crystal Dynamics has been impacted by several waves of layoffs, reducing studio headcount and very likely slowing progress on the upcoming Tomb Raider game.
The March 2025 layoffs saw employees made redundant to align with ‘business needs.’ In August 2025, another round of cuts took place, reportedly due to the cancellation of the studio’s highly-anticipated Perfect Dark reboot. While that seemed to be the end of it, the studio went through an additional wave of layoffs in November 2025.
‘To our players – as the realities of the industry continue to evolve, we’ve made these painful choices as a way to optimise the continued development of our flagship Tomb Raider game, as well as shaping the rest of the studio to make new games for the future,’ Crystal Dynamics leadership posted on LinkedIn.
It remains to be seen how reducing staff numbers will help to ‘optimise’ development, given that people are required to make games, and more hands make lighter work.
For now, it appears Crystal Dynamics is plowing ahead with development on its upcoming Tomb Raider game. We’ll very likely see what the studio has been working on during The Game Awards 2025, although the possibility for an alternative reveal remains open.
