The Witcher 3 rumoured to get new DLC in 2026

The Witcher 3 could be getting a major expansion in 2026, according to a variety of games industry sources.

The Witcher 3 is currently the subject of a major, wild rumour that suggests developer CD Projekt is planning to release a new DLC for the game, 11 years after its initial release. While the likelihood of a decade-old game suddenly getting new content feels low, reliable sources have suggested there could indeed be a major expansion on the way.

As reported by VGC and Strefa Inwestorów, Polish analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski inspired major speculation in December 2025, as he shared expectations that ‘the next paid add-on’ for The Witcher 3 would be releasing in May 2026.

Where the new Witcher 3 DLC speculation began

Chrzanowski’s claim followed a similar report from Polish games insider Borys Nieśpielak, who claimed in 2025 that CD Projekt was, indeed, working on DLC for The Witcher 3. Speaking to Eurogamer to kick off 2026, Nieśpielak claimed the rumour was verified by ‘several’ independent sources.

He also pointed to a recent CD Projekt earnings call as evidence of new developments. In this call, CD Projekt’s Chief Financial Officer Piotr Nielubowicz reportedly said, ‘Given our current progress, there is a chance that new content hinted upon in recent calls and reports may see release in the coming year, having an impact on our results and increasing the likelihood of achieving the earnings condition for the first stage of the incentive program.’

The ‘new content’ referenced by Nielubowicz does not appear to have been formally announced as yet, but given CD Projekt expects it will impact its results, and potentially allow it to achieve its planned earnings condition, it suggests a large release is on the way.

For now, that’s seemingly what has inspired the rumours, with no further details about what to expect – although Nieśpielak and Chrzanowski believe there’s more to the story, with many sources pointing towards a new Witcher 3 expansion.

It’s important to remember that any rumours about an upcoming DLC for The Witcher 3 remain unsubstantiated. That leaves the door wide open for speculation.

With The Witcher 4 on the horizon, and set to feature a new protagonist in fan-favourite warrior Ciri, there are some narrative gaps to be filled. A new DLC for The Witcher 3 could pave the way for what’s next, revealing more about Ciri’s story, and how she takes the reigns from Geralt.

It could also be an opportunity for a ‘one last ride’ for Geralt, as he leaves his Witcher days behind.

Amidst this speculation, it’s worth noting The Witcher 3 wouldn’t be the only recent ‘older’ game to get a major expansion, years after its launch. Just a few months ago, we saw 2023 action game Assassin’s Creed Mirage get a new, unexpected DLC adding new story content, and a new region.

Given how beloved The Witcher 3 is, a new DLC would certainly be a welcome excuse for fans to return, particularly if it gives more closure to Geralt’s story, or hints at what’s to come in The Witcher 4.

For now, this unlikely story requires patience for a resolution. But with analysts suggesting a May 2026 release date for the rumoured DLC, it feels likely we’ll learn the truth of the matter sooner, rather than later.
