EA and Maxis have confirmed the next major DLC for The Sims 4, the royal-focussed Royalty & Legacy Expansion Pack. In a new cinematic trailer, we see various royals dancing at a ball, with all sorts of drama playing out around them. One royal is having an affair and the nosy maid spots them, before threatening blackmail. Another royal has been cast out of his family line for unknown reasons.
It’s all very messy, and should make for some very juicy Sims drama.

What we know about The Sims 4 Royalty & Legacy so far
Beyond details revealed in the trailer, EA and Maxis have also released a blog post detailing more about what to expect of the Royalty & Legacy Expansion Pack.
The big, overarching feature here is the ability to create a Royal Dynasty, where your family of Sims will share a legacy. Your Dynasty is defined by share values, and you’ll need to spend time building the Prestige and Unity of your crew to ensure a powerful bond.
As detailed, any Sim can become the Head of their family Dynasty, and once in this position, they’ll be able to determine heirs or even exile Dynasty members, ensuring they become Outcasts. Given the different personalities of Sims, not everyone will be happy with the arrangements – and you can end up with even more complex, tense relationships within your Dynasty.
Individual members of a Dynasty will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities in their reign. You’ll need to ‘make decisions that win you the hearts of the people,’ while also avoiding the challenges of rivals.
Swordfight, kiss frogs, and avoid scandals in the latest Sims 4 expansion

In addition to the establishment of a Dynasty, The Sims 4 Royalty & Legacy will offer various other gameplay features, some inspired by classic fantasy stories of magical nobility.
Swordfighting will be a new skill in this pack, with Sims able to work on their prowess to fight for their honour. They’ll even be able to take part in ‘Duels of Swordsmanship’ which may ‘encourage’ another Sim to abdicate their throne.
For other more fantasy-oriented elements, it appears you’ll be able to test your mettle by pulling the mythical Sword out of the Stone. You’ll also be able to romance a Noble Frog, who (we hope) is a Prince in disguise. There does also appear to be Cinderella-inspired elements here, as you’ll be able to ‘dance in dazzling glass shoes’ while ascending to the top.
All the while, you’ll also need to ensure you avoid scandal, as ‘forbidden loves, secret children, and froggy kisses’ can become sordid whispers at Royal Court.
Two new Sims 4 kits have been announced alongside Royalty & Legacy

As well as announcing The Sims 4 Royalty & Legacy, EA and Maxis have also announced two new Kits at once, with both focussed on differently-styled cosmetics.
Here’s the Kits, and what they contain:
- The Sims 4 Tea Time Solarium Kit – ‘Design a social space that is not quite outside, and yet still separate from the daily bustle of your main house. With windowed walls, a flowering trellis, a discrete speaker shaped like a rock, and furniture fit for a garden or sitting room, you’ll craft the perfect spot to spill the tea with friends.’
‘An elegant tea party requires a beautiful space, good conversation, and – of course – tea, as well as other refreshments. This collection features a delicate tea set and treat tray that are both functional and lovely to look at, as well as a new banquet table.’
- The Sims 4 Silver Screen Style Kit – ‘Look confident and capable in sparkling jewellery, a faux fur-trimmed coat, and sleek shoes in addition to gowns and suits that create classic silhouettes. Embody an unstoppable persona. Dress for the moment you discover a scandal, reveal your secret plot, or get away with your prize. These are dramatic looks for when you want to feel iconic.’
As confirmed, The Sims 4 Royalty & Legacy launches on 12 February 2026. We expect the new Kits will also launch on the same date, allowing you to add garden parties and/or mafia-style Dynasties to your gameplay.
Stay tuned for a full gameplay reveal for Royalty & Legacy, set to arrive on 22 January.
