Sonic the Hedgehog and his dearest pals are set to face off with Godzilla in Sonic Rumble, as the iconic kaiju joins the game for a limited-time season of content.
From 22 December, players will be able to enter Sonic Rumble to take part in the new Godzilla Survival stage, which tasks players with running away from a Godzilla attack in the middle of the ocean. Godzilla will be a constant threat to the survival of Sonic and his pals, and you’ll need to work to avoid his Atomic Fire attack, and reach the end unscathed.
You can see a cinematic version of this stage in a new crossover trailer. While it doesn’t feature gameplay, it’s still very novel to see Sonic and friends going toe-to-toe with Godzilla.

Sonic Rumble‘s Godzilla crossover will feature free and premium tracks
As announced, Sonic Rumble‘s Godzilla crossover will arrive with a dedicated season pass comprising a free tier, and a paid tier.
Everyone on the free tier will get Godzilla and Fire Rhodan as playable characters. The paid premium pass will allow players to unlock Mothra and King Ghidorah. Mecha Godzilla and Destroyah will also be available for purchase in the game’s shop, at an additional cost.
As with most Godzilla crossovers, this one will strictly be limited. The Godzilla Survival stage will only be available in Sonic Rumble for a single month. It’s worth noting you will be able to keep the kaiju you purchase, the very least, so you’ll still be able to bask in the atomic glow of Godzilla in the months to come.
Godzilla‘s gaming legacy grows

Notably, this isn’t the first time Godzilla has appeared in a major video game crossover, although it is the first time he’s faced the characters of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Recently, Godzilla appeared in Dave the Diver in a major, free crossover DLC, with this introducing new Godzilla-themed events and collectibles. While this was meant to be a limited-time crossover, it actually returned in mid-2025 due to high demand, and it’ll now be available until December 2026.
Godzilla also appeared as a crossover character in Voxel Wars, GigaBash, and Fall Guys.
That’s not to mention the long string of video games dedicated solely to Godzilla, from mobile titles like Run Godzilla to console titles like Godzilla (2015). While we’ve long since past ‘peak’ Godzilla games – he dominated the gaming adventures of the 1990s – he’s still around, and still kicking.
Sonic Rumble will add to a long legacy for Godzilla, while also hosting the dream Sonic vs. Godzilla showdown.

A near-complete prototype of Resident Evil for Game Boy Color has been preserved by Games That Weren’t, thanks to a generous donation from one developer, Pete Frith. As shared in a blog post, the build obtained is estimated to be 98% complete, and might actually be fully playable (although full testing has not been completed).
While two previous builds of the game were preserved in 2011, neither were completable. The new version contains more content and more polish, as it represents the final version of the game that was made just prior to its cancellation. The build represents a fascinating slice of gaming history.
