Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is turning out to be a blockbuster affair, with a fresh handful of big-name actors recently added to the cast.

As shared by Variety, the names joining the film include the previously-announced Kristen Bell (as Amy Rose), Matt Berry (What We Do In The Shadows), Ben Kingsley (Wonder Man), Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation).

They join a stacked cast which already includes Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Idris Elba (Knuckles), Colleen O’Shaughnessey (Tails), James Marsden (Tom Wachowski), Tika Sumpter (Maddie Wachowski), and the now-confirmed Jim Carrey (Dr. Eggman) and Keanu Reeves (Shadow).

What we know about the new members of the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 cast

The roles of the newly-announced cast members have not been announced, but it does feel likely at least some of them will be playing familiar animated characters. Both Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade have ample experience with voice acting roles. Ayoade is particularly good in the underrated Cartoon Network show Apple & Onion, and Berry’s enunciation in various roles has risen his star immensely.

Likewise, Ben Kingsley and Nick Offerman’s voices are instantly recognisable, although both are more known for their live action appearances, in more serious roles.

Should the cast of Sonic’s friends be expanding, there’s plenty of roles to fill. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is widely speculated to feature inter-dimensional time travel, so we could see fresh faces, as well as variants on established characters.

Could Matt Berry be playing the iconic, friendly Big the Cat? Could Richard Ayoade be playing Espio, or Silver? With each new Sonic film, a new member of the main cast has been introduced, and while Amy and Metal Sonic have already been locked in as new additions, there’s always room for more pals.

First teaser for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 confirms an impending threat

Alongside news of fresh additions to the main cast, Paramount Pictures has also teased more for the future of the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise.

As part of a title tease for the next film, we got some new footage confirming the main heroes of this adventure – Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Shadow, Tom, Maddie, and Amy Rose.

We also got confirmation of Eggman’s return after he seemingly perished at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, as he narrates a vague threat that will likely define the film: ‘You think your world is safe, but your time is about to run out. The chaos has only just begun.’

Given the appearance of the Chaos Emeralds in this teaser, and references to time running out, we do expect this film will lean heavily into franchise lore, and the overarching plot of the time-travelling adventure Sonic CD, which marked the first appearances of Amy Rose and Metal Sonic.

For now, that’s about all we know of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, but we do expect more formal teasers towards the end of the year, as the film is set to release on 19 March 2027.
