Screen Queensland has today announced the annual Queensland Games Festival will include a dedicated Let’s Play Streamer Summit, designed to help streamers, content creators and game developers network and learn from each other.

As shared, the event is being run with Twitch and the Brisbane International Game Developers Association, as an ‘extension’ to the Queensland Games Festival’s Framework industry day, taking place on 26 June.

What to expect of the Let’s Play Streamer Summit

The dedicated summit will feature panels, networking and a special ‘Devs vs Streamers’ Super Smash Bros. competition, to allow for some friendly banter between more information-heavy sessions.

The Screen Queensland team has described the Let’s Play Streamer Summit as a ‘highly specialised program for streamers and game developers with a limited attendance capacity’.

Expressions of interest to attend are now open, and those keen to participate are encouraged to wave their hand as soon as possible.

As for the panels, here’s what to expect:

  • Become the Next Big Thing: Growing A Community on Twitch – 2pm AEST – ‘So, you’ve had Twitch account and camera for years and you have a love of games you want to share, but how can you actually make it as a streamer? Join some of Australia’s leading streamers as we delve into the things people don’t tell you about the world of streaming so that you can find your niche, maximise your reach, and go from dreamer to streamer.’
  • Dev? Streamer? Or Both? – 3pm AEST – ‘The line between making games and making content is becoming increasingly blurred as developers turn to social media to connect with audiences and sell their games, but for those diving into the world of algorithms, AdSense and audience, is streaming income diversification? A creative outlet? Audience testing? Or just a distraction? This panel explores the growth of YouTube and Twitch in games communities, balancing productivity with visibility, and why some developers succeed publicly while others disappear.’
  • Devs vs. Streamers: Super Smash Bros. – 4pm AEST – ‘This one’s going to be bigger than the State of Origin. Who will win in this ultimate face-off between developers and streamers where we discover who really knows their gameplay? Join us for this fierce competition, where only one team will be leaving with bragging rights.’

The festival will continue through 27 June as the public-facing Queensland Games Festival Exhibition kicks off. Here, streamers and all other attendees will have a chance to play through some of the brightest emerging games from Queensland.

Content capture will also be available, should streamers wish to share more of their experience with their audiences.

Screen Queensland and Twitch on the Let’s Play Streamer Summit

There are high hopes for the inaugural Let’s Play Streamer Summit and how it may break down the barriers between streamers and game developers, while also elevating the visibility of Queensland games.

‘Let’s Play Streamer Summit recognises the importance of discoverability for local games and helps forge the bridges between the creatives and communities that play, share and connect through digital games,’ said Julie Eckersley, Executive Director of Screen Content at Screen Queensland.

‘As the first state screen agency with a dedicated online program and one of Australia’s most competitive digital games offerings, Queensland is perfectly positioned to launch the first national summit for streamers, where developers and creators collide.’

Lewis Mitchell, Twitch’s APAC Content Director, was similarly enthusiastic about the collaboration.

‘Twitch is the home of livestreaming and we look forward to bringing creators and industry together in person to celebrate the continued growth of streaming culture across Queensland and Australia more broadly,’ Mitchell said.

The Let’s Play Streamer Summit takes place 26 June as part of the Queensland Games Festival. The festival runs from 26 to 27 June at the Brisbane Powerhouse.
