PlayStation has announced a major partnership with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Games, confirming it will work alongside the studio to publish a new co-op shooter directed by Left 4 Dead designer, Mike Booth. The news was announced in a press blast indicating high hopes for the upcoming project and its ambitions.

What is Bad Robot Games working on?

Per the press release, the game Bad Robot is developing with PlayStation will be an original title that innovates on the co-op shooter genre. So far, what we know for certain is that it’ll be for up to four players, likely inspired by Left 4 Dead, or otherwise shaped by the experiences of franchise veteran, Booth.

Notably, this will be the first major video game project for Bad Robot, although the team has previously supported various other projects, such as the choose-your-own-adventure interactive TV series, Silent Hill: Ascension.

It’s also worth noting Bad Robot Games is a spin-off from the film production company of the same name, which has previously supported production on major film franchises such as Mission: Impossible, Star Wars, and Star Trek.

The studio announced its foray into video games in 2018, and has spent the last few years developing and supporting an array of projects.

PlayStation’s expectations for Bad Robot Games

The press release announcing PlayStation’s partnership with Bad Robot Games confirms both studios are confident in their upcoming shooter project, and its potential impact in a crowded video games scene.

‘Partnering with Sony Interactive Entertainment allows us to bring our new IP to life, with an expansive vision for this new universe,’ Anna Sweet, CEO of Bad Robot Games said.

‘With the support of PlayStation, we hope to deliver a bold, innovative experience that is truly special for players. I could not be more excited that Mike Booth is at the creative helm, crafting a cooperative adventure that will lead to unforgettable moments with friends.’

‘We’re greatly impressed with the talent Bad Robot Games has assembled at their studio, and are thrilled to partner with them to help produce and publish their upcoming game,’ Christian Svensson, VP and Head of 2P/3P Content Ventures & Strategic Initiatives at Sony Interactive Entertainment said.

‘Their unique creative voice and passion for innovating across all forms of interactive entertainment perfectly aligns with SIE’s mission to craft experiences that resonate deeply with players. We can’t wait for gamers to step into the world they’ve been building.’

For now, Bad Robot Games is yet to fully unveil this major co-op shooter project, but we’re likely to hear more in the coming year.
