Nintendo has announced two special Nintendo Direct game showcases, with both set to reveal new games coming to the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 consoles in the near future.
One of the Nintendo Direct showcases is dedicated to the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, with this likely to feature 30 minutes of news and updates for the upcoming Legend of Zelda film as well as the recently-announced Ocarina of Time game remake.
The other Nintendo Direct showcase will feature 45 minutes of announcements relating to Nintendo Switch 2 games launching in Winter [Southern Hemisphere].
Swiftly following these dual announcements, the rumour mill kicked off online, and with whispers of a new Super Smash Bros. and a new Nintendogs title doing the rounds, there are compelling reasons to tune in.

Around any new Nintendo announcement, there is typically a raft of rumours of varying believability. While all should be taken with a grain of salt, the origin source of new rumours around a Nintendogs sequel is worth noting.
It all stems from comments made by YouTube user Malo932, who recently alleged that both Nintendogs and Super Smash Bros. are in the works, possibly for release in 2027.
Malo932 reportedly has a reputation for revealing Nintendo news early and accurately, previously sharing the existence of a new Star Fox game as well as details around an Ocarina of Time remake, the return of Nintendo Switch Sports and the arrival of the new Nintendo Direct game showcases.
For now, no further details on rumoured projects have been shared, but given the user’s track record for accuracy, there is some hope these games will eventually come to fruition. The return of Nintendogs in particular would be massive for millennials who grew up playing this virtual pet-rearing franchise on Nintendo DS.
There’s a lot of nostalgia for Nintendogs around, and appetite around a new game would be driven by strong, positive memories from childhood.
In any case, nothing is confirmed just yet and we really don’t know what Nintendo has in store for its latest showcases.
It feels likely we’ll get word of MIA titles like Professor Layton and the New World of Steam in this showcase, and maybe even Level-5’s Holy Horror Mansion. For everything else, it’s best to sit back and wait patiently for more.
