IKEA has announced a Pokémon Pokopia collaboration, which will take place both within the game and in select physical stores in Japan.

According to the announcement from IKEA, the crossover celebrates how homes can ‘reflect the personality’ of their decorators.

IKEA x Pokémon Pokopia collaboration

The IKEA team has created a special ‘IKEA Island’ within Pokopia, which is accessible by all players. All you need to do is visit a PC in-game and use the Link Code to access it.

For now, IKEA has not published the code, as it’s encouraging players to visit physical stores to find it – but we can expect to see this code popping up online in the coming days. Once you’re in, you’ll be able to explore IKEA-like rooms and exhibits.

According to the announcement, one room is inspired by the ‘expressive and energetic Pikachu’, with bright colours and leaf motifs. The other is inspired by Snorlax, and is a ‘cosy sleeping area’ with ample storage for clutter.

In physical stores across Japan, you’ll be able to see recreations of these same rooms, although without the unique Pokémon furniture that only exists in the game.

For players able to travel to these IKEA stores, there will be additional treats, including a stamp rally featuring various Pokopia iconography. There are seven stamps in total to collect, with each forming a take-home souvenir.

There will also be stickers available, included with purchases over ¥5,000 (AU$45). These feature Drifloon and Ditto, Ditto and Pikachu, Mosslax and Smearguru.

Special Pokémon Pokopia-themed food is also coming to IKEA

Perhaps the most exciting part of the collaboration, beyond the neat installations and photo opportunities, is that various IKEA deserts are set to get a Pokémon twist with this collaboration.

From now until 10 May, those who visit the restaurants in IKEA’s Japan store will find little Pokémon decorations on their meals, with standees being nice souvenirs. While only a small touch, it does add a bit of fun.

The Pokopia x IKEA collaboration will kick off on 1 April, and end in early May. IKEA Island within Pokopia will stay up a bit longer, with access granted for all players until 30 June. Should the crossover prove successful, we could well see it pop up in other stores, as with the touring Animal Crossing: New Horizons aquarium exhibit – but for now, it’s a Japan exclusive.

Also on ScreenHub: Pokémon Pokopia has already sold 2.2 million copies – and it’s no wonder why

Pokémon Pokopia reportedly sold over 2.2 million copies worldwide in its first four days on sale. Anecdotally, many folks on social media reported being unable to purchase it from stores, as it was seemingly sold out in some locations on launch.

By all accounts, Pokopia has been a major success. You only need to go on TikTok, Instagram or BlueSky to see just how far the game has spread, from memes to fun little videos of content creators discussing some new, hidden secret or another. You can see videos of people purchasing Nintendo Switch 2 consoles just to play Pokémon Pokopia. Those that aren’t playing it are creating videos lamenting the fact.
