Fallout 76 is currently free to play for everyone on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, with open access until 24 December. The timing of this free week is very intentional, as it aligns with the launch of the second season of Prime Video’s wildly popular Fallout TV series.

Fallout 76 shares synergy with Prime Video’s TV series
Any watchers keen to learn everything about the Wasteland, and where exactly the inspiration from the show came from, can now pop their head in for a look-see to find out what Fallout is all about. There’s actually a very cool bit of synergy in the game right now, with Walton Goggins appearing as The Ghoul in the game’s Burning Springs region.
He’s an NPC that occupies a bar where you can gather bounty hunter contracts to earn experience. And as confirmed in a recent livestream, Goggins himself voiced and played the Ghoul for this appearance.
‘To be in…the actual video game itself, there are rainbows coming out of my heart,’ Goggins said during this announcement.
Per game developers Jon Rush, Creative Director of Fallout 76, and Bill LaCoste, Production Director, the appearance of Goggins in the game was the result of a direct collaboration with Prime Video, following the success of the series adaptation.
‘On the appearance, on the specifics of The Ghoul…the mannerisms, and the gun, that was all a lot of back and forth to make sure that it was as close to what you’re seeing in the show as we could get,’ Rush told ScreenHub in a recent roundtable. ‘As far as the initial ideation of having The Ghoul included, that was something that came up organically, as we were discussing the new region.’
‘Once we got the new region nailed down – the look, the feel, the tone – then we arrived at bounty hunting as being the appropriate feature for that region. It only made sense to try and have The Ghoul that everybody knows from the Amazon show to host that new feature.’
How to find The Ghoul in Fallout 76
Those experiencing Fallout 76 after enjoying the Fallout Prime Video series might want to beeline to The Ghoul, for that all-important synergy. If that’s the case, you will need to go through an onboarding experience first – patience required – and then you can set off on a path to Burning Springs.
Specifically, you’ll want to find a place called The Last Resort, which is a saloon located in Highway Town in Burning Springs. Check out your map for exact instructions on how to visit, and you’ll eventually be able to befriend The Ghoul and complete his many, many Bounty Hunting missions.
It’s a very neat crossover for fans of Prime Video’s series, and the free week should prove to be a solid introduction to the game universe. Players who enjoy their experience in Fallout 76 over the week will need to purchase the full game to continue beyond 24 December, but any progress earned will remain tied to their account.
Prime Video’s Fallout Season 2 is now streaming
For everyone else keen for more Fallout, the good news is the second season of Prime Video’s Fallout series has now kicked off, after being pushed forward by the streaming platform.
Unlike the first season, Prime Video’s Fallout Season 2 will have weekly episode drops, but that provides plenty more reason to jump in and discuss each development, week by week.
