Following the success of its episodic action comedy Dispatch, AdHoc Studio has confirmed the game will arrive on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on 28 January 2026. While previously, it was a PlayStation 5 console exclusive (as well as being available on PC), the game will now be available for new audiences.
The listing for Dispatch on Nintendo Switch actually appeared early via the Australian Nintendo eShop, prior to an official announcement. As reports broke, AdHoc Studio stepped in to confirm the listing was legitimate, and that Dispatch‘s success has allowed the team to bring the game to new consoles.
Why Dispatch became a breakout success
As of mid-November 2025, Dispatch had sold over two million copies, becoming a runaway success, and inspiring its own passionate fandom. While hardly a sure mark, a key sign of a game’s popularity is when the fan art arrives – and social media spaces are absolutely filled with it.
Notably, this success didn’t arrive overnight. Dispatch was a game that was developed by a veteran team, some of whom previously worked for Telltale Games, the award-winning narrative adventure game studio. The game was also co-produced by the team behind Critical Role, with many cast members providing their voices to the game, as well as brand synergy.
Per AdHoc Studio, Dispatch was, at one point, in dire financial straits. While the game had secured a publisher early into its development, they were reportedly ‘dropped’ halfway through the game creation process due to ‘financial things.’
In an interview with Eurogamer, writer and studio co-founder Pierre Shorette said, ‘The industry was collapsing, if you recall, two years ago. We were right there. Without really getting into the details, we were at the tip of the spear of it all popping. The publisher we were at was connected with Embracer, and I feel like Embracer was one of the first dominoes to really set the industry shaking, so we were right there at the edge of it. It was a weird place to be.’
Everyone told AdHoc Studios that releasing Dispatch was a bad idea
With the news that Dispatch will release on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 shortly, thanks to significant success, it’s worth noting AdHoc Studio were told they should give up, and that the game wouldn’t sell well. The game succeeded out of a belief in its core ideas, and some measure of spite.
‘People are mad at us because “how could they not know this was going to be a huge success?”‘ Nick Herman, game director and studio co-founder told Eurogamer.
As Shorette replied, ‘I’ll tell you how. You have basically everyone tell you it’s a bad idea for seven fucking years!’
After Dispatch was dropped by its first publisher, many naysayers reportedly told AdHoc Studio that making an episodic comedy-adventure was ‘dumb’ and they were ‘making a game in a dead genre.’
When Critical Role swept in to support Dispatch by providing exposure, it provided a leg up for the development team – and the narrative, characters, and design of Dispatch did the rest. After years of facing rejection, the game has now definitively proven critics wrong.
It’s certainly earned its newly-announced launch on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
