Disney Lorcana‘s latest expansion, Hyperia City, is set to be a fresh and flavourful new chapter for the ongoing card game. Where previous sets leaned into the magical, this one appears to be more grounded in approach, seeing players and characters heading to the streets of Hyperia City where something nefarious is happening in the back alleys and waterways.
There’s just one new franchise joining the Lorcana crew for this set, and that’s Coco. With the original film inspired by real-life Mexico and its mythology, it makes sense that Hyperia City will be a more familiar set, with recognisable locales including stadiums, malls and university halls.
As Ravensburger says, this set introduces a special town where ‘metro meets fantasy’ and you can ‘join the likes of heroes, princesses, and a magical wizard or two’ where ‘music and art bring these animated streets to life’.
Thanks to the Disney Lorcana team, we have an exclusive card to reveal from this upcoming set, confirming that certain characters will get very snazzy new ‘real life’ treatments in Hyperia City, to better allow them to fit into urban life.

Disney Lorcana: Hyperia City – Shere Khan’s new treatment
Shere Khan, the villain of The Jungle Book, is no stranger to Disney Lorcana. He gets a new treatment in the Hyperia City set that reimagines him as a ‘ruthless’ businessman, which is a very funny interpretation.
In the world of The Jungle Book, Shere Khan is an irredeemable villain. Ruthless, aggressive and outright evil. That he’s positioned here as an entrepreneur with a leery grin certainly says something about the perceptions of these figures in our modern society.
In any case, he’s a very fun card with a high-cost and powerful abilities. Spend seven ink, and you’ll be able to play him on the battlefield at just the right moment to deploy his ‘Quietly Released’ ability. This lets you put a chosen opposing character with 3 or less strength on the bottom of your opponent’s deck.
That’s right. Shere Khan – Ruthless Entrepreneur has a layoff ability.
He takes cards just doing their job and forces them into pseudo-retirement.
And if that wasn’t enough, his flavour text digs the boot in: ‘Unfortunately, your usefulness has come to an end.’
As well as being outright rude to opponents, the card also has seven strength, which is likely to cause some exhaustion on the battlefield, and four willpower to prevent him being put away immediately.
Now this is a Super Rare card, so it might be hard to find it in your booster pack openings. But if you do, it’s a very handy card, and one that can fit in most decks. It’s got limited synergy, just for other Dreamborn and Villains, and it has low lore gain per turn. But with its strength and that tactically-minded Quietly Released ability, it can be played at just the right moment to save you from powerful challengers.
It might feel a bit icky in play, particularly if you prefer the lighter side of Disney Lorcana, but sometimes, a wild and powerful play is just what you need to get out from your opponent’s grip.
You’ll be able to hunt for Shere Khan – Ruthless Entrepreneur when Disney Lorcana: Hyperia City hits shelves next month. As announced, the set launches in pre-release on 16 October, and will be available everywhere from 23 October.
