Disney Lorcana‘s Attack of the Vine set, launching in prerelease on 17 July, is already looking like one of the bigger TCG releases for the year.

After laying the foundation of the TCG’s plot – and yes, there is a coherent and story-based narrative that runs through each card set – multiple threads will unravel in this particular expansion.

For months now, the card game has teased an impending adventure through darkness and strife, with strange, thorny vines spreading across its alternative Disney universe, spawning monsters of all sorts. As this particular set ponders: what better way to fight monsters than with monsters?

This set will introduce a raftof new monsters and heroes to head into battles, including recognisable folks from Monsters, Inc., Turning Red and even Up.

Thanks to Ravensburger and Disney, we’ve got one such monster to reveal, and she hails from the universe of Monsters, Inc. Please put put your hands together for Celia Mae – Friendly Receptionist.

Celia Mae is best known for being the receptionist at Monsters Inc. as well as the girlfriend of franchise co-protagonist Mike Wazowski. As a Gorgon monster of Greek mythology, these elements aren’t the only interesting things about her, though – and that’s recognised in this very novel card.

Celia Mae – Friendly Receptionist is a three-ink Amber Storyborn Ally Monster card that can’t be flipped for ink. When played, she has three strength and three willpower, and she can quest for two lore.

Her key ability, Please Hold, should prove very useful for those looking to improve their strategic moves.

How to play Celia Mae – Friendly Receptionist

When you play this card, you can pay one ink to ready another character of yours. While they can’t quest or challenge for the rest of the turn, readying them can have a range of benefits.

They can avoid being challenged, for one thing, possibly saving another of your cards from being banished. Certain characters will also have interactive abilities when being readied, allowing you to double their impact.

Christopher Robin – Adventurer, for example, gives you two lore whenever you ready it, and if you have two or more other characters in play. Bolt – Superdog gives you one lore gain for each other undamaged character you have in play whenever you ready it. Wreck-It Ralph – Demolition Dude gives you one lore gain for each damage on it whenever it’s readied.

Readying can be very useful for making additional plays per turn, speeding up lore gain, and protecting characters you don’t want to see banished.

Celia Mae – Friendly Receptionist should be quietly useful in that regard.

While this card isn’t phenomenally powerful, it should be a great new card to include in decks with layered turn-based strategy, keeping in mind the quick lore gain, as well as any decks focused on Monsters as a new character archetype.

We expect to see plenty of synergy with forthcoming cards in Disney Lorcana: Attack of the Vine, so keep an eye out as further cards are revealed. We’ll soon known exactly how those all-important monster mechanics work together.

Disney Lorcana: Attack of the Vine launches in prerelease on 17 July, and will be available widely on 24 July.
