A new European ‘goods and services’ trademark filing for a project known as ‘Control: Resonant‘ has sparked major speculation that Control developer Remedy Entertainment is preparing to announce its long-gestating Control sequel shortly, possibly at The Game Awards 2025.

For now, this remains pure speculation, but as surfaced by MP1st, several clues point to this distinct possibility.

What is Control: Resonant?

As noted, the recent trademark filing for Control: Resonant was made through Nordia Attorneys at Law, a firm which has been used by Remedy Entertainment for many of its trademarks. The trademark relates to goods and services which fit under the computer gaming software label, as well as general entertainment categories.

Remedy Entertainment has been developing a major sequel to Control for several years now, and it remains one of the studio’s upcoming flagships – one of the projects it’s currently leaning on, after a year of challenges. To date, the studio hasn’t formally named the sequel or revealed much about its intended direction, but recent updates have suggested an imminent announcement.

There remains the possibility that Resonant could be something else, of course – an adaptation, a spin-off, or another slice of media. In 2022, Remedy announced a partnership with Annapurna to develop TV series adaptations for both Control and Alan Wake.

But speculation remains on this being the possible subtitle for the Control video game sequel, given the anticipation for an incoming update, as well as the timing. The 2025 Game Awards are set to take place on 11 December [PT/ET], and a game reveal could be set for the show.

When will we hear more about the Control sequel?

Remedy Entertainment has previously announced new games at The Game Awards, and even got a release celebration for Alan Wake 2 at the show, in 2023. Should there be a major announcement for the Control sequel in the works, it feels likely this event will host it.

For now, Remedy Entertainment has only provided slim development updates for this sequel, although we know it’s been in development for over three years now, and that production is going full speed ahead.

While we don’t expect a meaty trailer or a formal release date imminently, we do anticipate that Control 2 will be publicly revealed sometime in the near future, and that The Game Awards 2025 could be a very likely platform for this. The trademark filing is just another hint in that direction.

For now, it’s best to stay patient to see what Remedy Entertainment has in store. At this stage, Control: Resonant could be anything, and while there is strong speculation in one direction, patience remains more important. Stay tuned for more as the mystery behind this trademark is resolved.
