Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed is officially launching for PS5 on 17 February, after a well-received debut on Xbox Series X/S and PC early in 2025. As announced, this new release will feature a New Game Plus mode, alongside a Photo Mode, new races, weapon types, and more – all of which will also be available to players on PC and Xbox.

Xbox’s cross-platform strategy comes for Avowed

The news aligns with a recent push by Xbox Game Studios to release new titles across multiple platforms, to ensure more players have access. It’s worth noting that shared releases have become standard in recent years, with Xbox and PlayStation titles increasingly launching as multi-platform, usually after a brief period of exclusivity.

One year on from Avowed‘s initial launch, PlayStation players will finally be able to get hands on, and discover the magic at the heart of this fantasy.

Why you should make time for Avowed

Anyone yet to jump into this Obsidian Entertainment-developed adventure should certainly make time in February, should console availability have been the hurdle. Avowed had a relatively low-key launch in early 2025, and it deserved far more.

It’s a lush, open-ended journey that brims with bright, creative characters and a world worth exploring at length. While Obsidian Entertainment was keen to avoid comparisons to Skyrim pre-launch, it’s fair to describe the game as being somewhat like this iconic RPG.

You enter its world as an active hero fighting for your right to survive, while contending with various political tensions in a complex high fantasy world. You also spend a lot of your time flinging spells at lizard people, discovering treasures in deep caves, and fighting against ancient Gods.

It’s a wonderful time, and it deserves to be experienced by more players.

Here’s more of ScreenHub‘s thoughts from our GOTY roundup: ‘Avowed arrived early in 2025 as a fresh fantasy adventure with layered characters and a colourful world to explore. Treading in the footsteps of Obsidian Entertainment’s Pillars of Eternity video games franchise, it managed to look and feel like its own thing while still carrying the charm and dense lore of its predecessors.’

While there can be elementals of tribalism when video games cross console barriers, the reality is that Avowed coming to PS5 means that more players can jump in, elevating the game’s profile as it deserves. Like Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush before it, Avowed can now looking forward to reaching an entirely new audience.

Wolfenstein 3 is reportedly now in active development at MachineGames, according to Kotaku and Windows Central. Details remain scarce, however both outlets have reported the news comes from legitimate sources, indicating the studio’s long-term plans are progressing.

As Kotaku states, the release of a new Wolfenstein could align with a big push to elevate the iconic franchise, as Prime Video is currently developing a TV series adapting the games, all of which focus on defeating the Nazis in creative, gnarly ways.

The last mainline entry in the Wolfenstein series, 2017’s Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, remains one of MachineGames’ crowning achievements, with this action-adventure weaving a dark alternative history tale with moreish, heavy-hitting combat and power fantasy. While this game leaned into the bizarre in its final stanzas and appeared to draw the modern Wolfenstein story to a satisfying close, there’s always room for more Nazi-killing antics.
