Kerry Stokes added to the short list of Great Austraiian Media Quotes when he said that Packer told him at home: ‘I’ve come to tell you that we’re going to take the AFL rights off you. We don’t really want to do it but News are making us.’ What do you think he did with the horse’s head?

The ABC describes the situation for Kerry in the witness box as “Getting Personal”.

He was accused of telling lies about an earlier deal.

The Sydney Morning Herald expands by saying that “Kerry Stokes was yesterday accused of fabricating ignorance”…

But nothing beats The Australian’s account of Kerry Packer going to Stokes at home to tell him the bad news about the AFL rights.

We can’t work out whether he did it to be compassionate or because he wanted to see Stokes wee on his own carpet.

That was just the first day. Yesterday the lawyers hit the same playlist again, accusing him of fabricating evidence.

This gave the Australian the chance to tell the story of ex-TVNZ honcho Julian Mounter, and certain encounters documented by agendas and emails which Stokes does not remember. Life at that level must be a a blur of meetings, but you would remember the ones where you are deciding to sack your new golden boy.

This is just a taste – the grilling will go on for weeks.
