Monash’s Maya 3D Competition Winners Announced

This is sweet. Monash Uni holds a competition for secondary schools using Maya 3D software and 140 schools respond. The future is digital.

The award winners for Monash University’s Maya? 3D Competition 2005 were announced during an exhibition held by Berwick School of Information Technology 2005 at Melbourne’s Federation Square on November 15. More than 140 Secondary Schools participated in the competition, which were designed to encourage students to learn about the creation of 3D animation and multimedia through the creation of a short animation or still image using Maya Personal Learning Edition (PLE).

Awards were presented by Alias’ Global Industry Manager for Education, David Della Rocca, who flew in from Toronto for the event. First prize-winner was Scott Graham from Bathurst High for his still entitled ‘Relaxation,’ receiving a 12-month Maya Complete student license, an Xbox?, an iPod? 30GB, trophy and certificate, and an 11-pack Easy as 1-2-3D Jumpstart Maya Complete, and inclusion on 3D Competition Shield for his school. Taking out second prize was Brentwood Secondary College team Norman Wang and Katrina Giang for their still, ‘Queen of the Forsaken,’ and third prize went to Alex Fateev from Oatley Senior Campus for his three-minute animation, ‘Mayhem Drive.’ Each 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners’ schools received trophies.
