Recently Arts Centre Melbourne advertised for ushers, perhaps the lowest rung of working in the arts sector. Alex Bentick, Human Relations Coordinator, received 500 applications for the 20 positions.

It’s a story you hear over and over in the arts sector. There are more qualified, capable people who want to work in the arts industry than jobs to go around. For job applicants that means a small error may be enough to destroy your chances.
