The chair of the ABC may be a recurrent circus, but this is surely the first time a chair has been the hero of a miniseries in which she fought with one of Australia's most appalling media magnates.

There is a lot of agitated chatter around the appointment of Ita Buttrose as the new chair of the ABC.

One look at her CV reveals no real experience in television and radio. She is fabulous at hand to hand fighting in the commercial magazine field, constructing a coherent product which dominated the women’s market in a period of enormous change. Her feel for popular culture in her field is extraordinary. Just – not in broadcast media.
