Learn the basics of camera and sound and how to shoot “on the run” in a small class with lots of hands on practical experience and brand new cameras.

The world of television production is a fast changing environment – new roles and job descriptions are constantly being created. Many Reality/Observational documentary series employ ‘Shooter/Producers’ so this skill set is in high demand.

This new AFTRS OPEN course is designed for TV Producers, Associate Producers and Researchers with some production knowledge and experience but little or no camera expertise. It will teach the basic principles of recording quality picture and sound; with an emphasis on working “on the run” in situations where you have little control over the events you are filming. You’ll learn how to make editorial judgments on the run, produce talent effectively, tell a good story and think on your feet as the world falls apart around you. Plus you’ll find out how to shoot sequences that can cut together in the edit while remaining cool and calm under pressure.

Reality TV Shooter Producer Mikey Trotter’s impressive credits include UK Masterchef, Biggest Loser and Pineapple Dance Studios plus Australian Dancing With The Stars and Project Runway. He has filmed almost every conceivable fight, fit of tears or challenge and is passionate about what he does. Mikey has a wealth of experience when it comes to working in situations where you have little control over the events you are filming.

25 – 27 Nov, 9am – 5pm, $690 ($690 industry)
