The Melbourne International Animated Film Festival (MIAFF), celebrating its tenth birthday, starts this weekend. The trailer is a lovely example of painting on film. It is made by Montreal based Steven Woloshen, a key guest at the fest.

Lovely stuff, and painstakingly done frame by frame, after a channelling ritual to bring the spirit of Len Lye back into the world of colour. The festival is running a two day masterclass with him, and showcasing this most determinedly physical way of creating abstractions.
