Following its 2009 domestic hit Founding of a Republic to celebrate 60 years of the People’s Republic of China, China Film Group is marking the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist party with the film fka Founding of a Party. However, as Westerners might misconstrue the title as referring to something involving fun, the film has been renamed for its international release Beginning of the Great Revival.

Founding of a Republic broke box office records in China for a domestic release, grossing US$65 million. How reliable the number is remains open to discussion, since the State Administration for Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) only sporadically announces box office takings. Due to the massive and ongoing expansion in the number of screens in China, plus the arrival of 3D screens, that record is now being broken on a reasonably regular basis.
