Cannes closed its doors late last night, except to those with invites to the closing bash and parties, passing out the gongs from its main competition. The Palme d’Or went to Terrence Malick for The Tree of Life.

Malik was not present for the cermony, a theme which was continued for other awards. Lars von Trier was absent following his ban the festival, but his Melancholia picked up a Best Actress prize for Kirsten Dunst.
