Nick Barkla dreamt up a new way of working in the Australian film industry and the AFI is now helping him make it happen. The inaugural recipient of the AFI Fellowship talks about his vision for the Ensemble Film Company.

Melbourne-based actor and writer Nick Barkla already has screen-time under his belt (Em4Jay, Tom White) and was one of the original members of the reputable Melbourne co-operative, Red Stitch Theatre. But, hungry for a more consistent – and collaborative – way to work, he’s keen to set up Australia’s first ensemble film company, a place for writers, directors, actors and producers to work together on a range of film projects.
