Head of Strategic Policy and Insights

Screen Australia is the Commonwealth Government’s primary agency for supporting Australian screen projects, practitioners and businesses. We support projects of scale and ambition, distinct local stories told with strong creative voices and risk-taking content for all platforms.

About us:

Screen Australia is dedicated to supporting and shaping Australia’s screen industry. Through strategic funding and industry partnerships, we champion diverse and compelling storytelling across feature films, television, and online platforms. Our commitment to excellence, innovation, and industry collaboration ensures the continued success of Australian screen content on both domestic and international stages.

About the Role

As a trusted advisor to the CEO and member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the Head of Strategic Policy & Insights plays a critical leadership role within Screen Australia. This role is responsible for driving the agency’s long-term strategic agenda, including high-level policy development, government engagement and the oversight of influential research and insights that inform sector-wide reform and decision-making.

You will lead a high-performing team to shape the agency’s strategic and policy direction, deliver high-quality research and analysis, and position Screen Australia as a proactive, future-focused thought leader in the evolving screen landscape. This is a rare opportunity to lead meaningful, sector-shaping work at the intersection of government, culture, data and screen industry innovation.

About you

We’re seeking an influential and values-driven leader with:

  • Proven experience in a senior executive or leadership role with a strong focus on strategic planning, public policy, research and/or data analysis—ideally within the creative, cultural or public sectors.
  • An understanding of the regulatory, economic and policy frameworks that shape Australia’s screen industry.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with government stakeholders, influencing public policy outcomes, and representing organisations at senior levels.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to distil complex ideas into clear, evidence-based advice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive submissions, reports and strategic documents.
  • A collaborative leadership style and the ability to inspire high performance in others, with a commitment to equity, innovation and public value.

The benefits

In return, you will receive an attractive executive level salary + generous 15.4% superannuation, annual pay reviews (subject to performance), work in our modern office in Ultimo; and become a part of a high-performing, creative, passionate and inclusive team environment.

At Screen Australia, we welcome and value the unique perspectives, experiences, and talents of all individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, or any other dimension of diversity. We recognise that a diverse workforce is essential to our success. We encourage applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds and are committed to providing equal opportunities for all employees to thrive and succeed.

Please note while at Screen Australia, employees are unable to access any state or Screen Australia funding, in addition to freelancing on any Screen Australia productions.
