You’ve got a great scripted TV show, it’s been through several stages of development and – finally – it’s time to sell it.
So, what are the next steps?
This two-day intensive course is designed for early and mid-career producers and will provide valuable insights and confidence as they take what can often be a daunting step into the marketplace to finance their projects.
The course will consist of theory and practical exercises with guest speakers joining Course Convenor, Michelle Hardy (SPA Industry Programs Consultant).
Topics include:
- How to assess the viability of a project for market
- A snapshot of the top domestic and international scripted TV markets
- Your market strategy and end goal
- Finance plans, understanding the gap and how to fill it
- Creating sustainable relationships with the right people
- Current marketplace intel
- Preparing for market, on the ground and the follow-up
- Pitch materials
- The market pitch meeting
Participants will also hear from a panel of TV distributors from the UK and Europe with top tips on pitching to scripted TV distributors at market and from local Australian producers who will share their insights and learnings from their own experiences pitching their scripted slate at market.
The Market Pitch Meeting
Eight students will be given the opportunity to participate in a simulated market pitch meeting where they will pitch their project to Course Convenor Michelle Hardy and award-winning writer, producer, executive and Head of Drama at CJZ, Claire Tonkin.
The students will be randomly selected on the first morning of the course and pitch meetings will take place the following afternoon. Fellow students who aren’t pitching will have the chance to watch each meeting and learn from the feedback provided.
Once registered, if you would like to have the opportunity to practice your pitch during the course and receive feedback, please email the course convenor HERE with the name of your project and a one-paragraph synopsis (maximum 200 words) by 12:00pm AEST on 27 August 2025.
