Join us in the cinema to launch the 113th issue of Senses of Cinema with a screening of Mohanad Yaqubi’s archival documentary.
Beginning as a project to catalogue over twenty archival films sourced in Japan, R21 aka Restoring Solidarity explores the often undocumented solidarity between countries and peoples oppressed after conflict.
The documentary draws on a selection of 16mm films from the collection, some made by Japanese filmmakers and others by militant filmmakers from other countries, which were dubbed and screened in Japan.
The films vary stylistically and include interviews with PLO leaders, documentary impressions of life in refugee camps, experimental films, and even instructional films aimed at promoting tourism.
Before this special screening, we will have a sneak peek at the new issue of Senses of Cinema featuring a dossier on the Cinema of Global Solidarity and Palestinian Struggle.
