Rudeboy: The Story of Trojan Records

In the multicultural Britain of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s ska music emerged as the sound of dance floors. Jamaican musicians such as Lee Scratch Perry, Desmond Dekker, Jimmy Cliff, Toots, Sly and Robbie, and Marcia Griffiths created a string of legendary songs that inspired black and white youths, feeding into the rudeboy and traditional skinhead subcultures. Trojan Records was the home to many of these artists, providing the council estates of the UK with a taste of Jamaican music.

Rudeboy: The Story of Trojan Recordsexplores the era through interviews, archives and recreations, the impact of Black British culture, and celebrates the music, telling the story of the musicians, audiences, and record label. The presence of Pauline Black (Selector), Don Letts, and Neville Staple (The Specials) offers testimony to the ongoing power and influence of the music.

This love letter to one of Britain's first multicultural pop movements is an effortlessly enjoyable viewing experience with a rich, sunny, consistently uplifting soundtrack.” – Hollywood Reporter
