TFF: Your Turn

Your Turn depicts the Brazilian student movement from the protests of 2013 until the election of the new president, Jair Bolsonaro, in 2018. Inspired by the collective voice of the movement itself, the documentary is narrated by three high school students, who represent central points of their struggle.

The awerd-winning documentary Your Turn is an attempt to comprehend the recent and intense events in Brazilian history through its student movements.

It is a fast-paced, multifacted documentary following three high school activists through student protests as the country's continuing economic and social crises threaten the state of public education itself. These students carry with them the lived experiences and important intersections of their generation: feminism, LGBTQ+ struggles, and anti-racism.

They witness the great marches of 2013, live through the protests and school occupations in Sao Paulo in 2015, and narrate Dilma Rouseff's impeachment in 2016, as well as Jair Bolsonaro's electoral victory in 2018.

With an urgent and electrifying collage of out-in-the-streets footage and raw, heartfelt testimonial, director Eliza Capai captures the rage of a generation fighting against a future of diminished opportunities and the hard-won hope their movement gave a nation and the world.

In three distinct voices and with a rush of colour, music, and dance, their stories tell of a generation taking to the streets en masse, and in the process creating a document that burns with vitality and the moral necessity of fighting for a better future.
