Slam

Partho Sen-Gupta (Sunrise) directs a tense mystery set in Sydney about a Muslim refugee and cafe owner, Ricky (Adam Bakri), whose life is turned upside down when his estranged younger sister Ameena (Danielle Horvat) goes missing.

Beginning a desperate search for her with their mother, Ricky's sister Ameena is a highly politicised slam poet, and it doesn't take long for the right-wing media to seize on the story: twisting it into speculation that Ameena has fled Australai to join the Islamic State. Also starring Rachael Blake as the police officer in charge of investigating the disappearance, SLAM becomes a pertinent study on Islamophobia and how family and identity ties can conflict us.
