Fusiles O Pintadas
The nonviolent fight of the Saharawi People in Western Sahara
Presented by Melbourne Filmoteca and Australian Western Sahara Association
The Sahrawi people of the Western Sahara have been waiting for a UN-promised referendum for 40 years, which would grant them self-determination and end the occupation of the area by Morocco.
The long wait has prompted many Sahrawis to prefer a return to war to resolve the situation, but non-violent activists argue it is more sustainable to work towards building a healthy society based on human rights.
The documentary showcases both sides of the debate and shed a light on the human rights abuses sustained by the Sahrawis in the occupied territories.
Q&A presented by the Australian Western Sahara Association will follow the screening.
