In this two-hour masterclass, producer Marcus Gillezeau will deliver an informative and entertaining hands-on, how-to on development, story, financing and distributing a feature documentary. Through case studies including Storm Surfers 3D, Motorkite Dreaming and his current production Own the Sky, along with other recent box office hits, he will share the facts, figures, secrets and storytelling rules for a long-form documentary.
Marcus Gillezeau is an AACTA and International Digital Emmy® Award-winning filmmaker with over 25 years experience in blue-chip documentary production. He is best known for the ground-breaking Storm Surfers 3D and the all-media drama Scorched. His feature documentaries have been released theatrically in Australia, screened in major film festivals including Toronto and San Sebastien and have sold around the world. He has delivered to all the major networks including Discovery, National Geographic, ABC and SBS.
PRODUCING DRAMA MASTERCLASS with Bridget Callow-Wright
Bridget Callow-Wright will draw on her experience as a successful producer of scripted narrative for film and as a Senior Lecturer in Producing at SAE to deliver a practical workshop on how to produce narrative content for film and television. Through case studies and examples of her work, she will cover processes and strategies on budgeting and funding, script development, casting, the production process and distribution.

In this fast-paced, practical 2 hour workshop Screenworks’ Programs & Operations Manager, Lisa O’Meara will explain how to prepare yourself and the key elements that you need to think about before you start pitching your project.
You will learn how to develop successful pitch documents to attract interest from broadcasters, producers and funding bodies and you will leave with strategies and tools to apply to your own production ideas.
CREATE NSW with Sofya Gollan
Sofya Gollan, Screen Investment Manager, Create NSW. Sofya is an award-winning director and writer of documentary and drama films; her films have screened in major international festivals over the decade. An acting graduate of National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) she moved from a successful acting career to filmmaking, holding a Masters in Directing (AFTRS). PRESERVATION for SBS screened worldwide and was nominated for 3 AFI/ACCTA Awards, including Best Director and Best Screenplay. DRESSING DAD won an Atom award for Best Short Documentary.
More recently her short film GIMPSEY (2017) was nominated for an ACCTA Award for Best Short Film in the Social Shorts category. She has also been commissioned Playwright on several occasions. In 2016 she was a resident Playwright in the Studio at the Griffin Theatre, developing her latest work Loves’ Last Atom. She was Associate Director of the Other Film Festival in 2012/13 sourcing and programming the best of disability cinema worldwide. From 2017 she has been the guest programmer of the Screenability Strand at the Sydney Film Festival, programming both the 2018 and 2019 strands.
