Actor, writer and director Martyn Sanderson has died at the age of 71.

Born in Westport, educated at Oxford University in England, and a founder of Wellington’s Downstage Theatre, Mr Sanderson appeared in almost fifty film and television productions, including Merata Mita’s Mauri, Geoff Murphy’s Utu, Grant Lahood’s Chicken, John Laing’s Beyond Reasonable Doubt and Tony Richardson’s Ned Kelly.
