Rise of the Planet of the Apes, featuring the excellence of Weta’s wizardry, had a good opening weekend here and elsewhere, but fell victim to a stand-off in India between the country’s major exhibitors and distributor Fox Star Studios.

In the US, it opened in top spot and took an estimated US$54million off 5,400 screens for an easy bit of arithmetic at $10,000/screen. It placed #5 on the list of August openings in the US (they love their stats) behind The Bourne Ultimatum, Rush Hour 2, Signs and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
