Don Dunstan was the Premier of South Australia who created the very first State film agency, and really pioneered the detailed government engagement with feature film production finances.
“This means a lot to me,” said Hicks. “People who say awards are meaningless have either never won one or won too many. This one in particular is so special because were it not for the doorway that Don Dunstan opened forty years ago, a doorway that I noticed at a critical point in my life, and went through, it is highly unlikely that I would ever have become a filmmaker.”
