Safe Harbour gave Glendyn Ivin the 2018 AACTA for Best Direction in a Television Drama or Comedy. This year we are swimming in a sea of cultural politics about the Australia we want to live in.

Sixty years is impressive for an Australian cultural institution. In 1958, the Australian Film Institute had a wider remit and auspiced the nascent Melbourne International Film Festival. The Awards were given in all of three categories, which had a total of eight projects. They covered documentary, educational and advertising. Today they seem quaint, but this was the remnants of an industry battling on after twenty years of destruction.
