How do you find new angles on classic family stories? When is a classic ripe for a remake, and how do you know what to keep and what to change?
These were the questions posed by moderator Benjamin Law to Producer and EP Michael Boughen of Ambience Entertainment (Storm Boy, Tomorrow When the War Began) and Barbara Stephen, Managing Director of Flying Bark Productions (Tashi, Blinky Bill). As to how you sell the thing once it’s made, Alison Smith, the Sony marketing director for campaigns like Peter Rabbit and Storm Boy was on hand to give advice about targeting audiences, pulling levers and managing ‘heritage properties’.
