A still from Alice (1988) directed by Jan Švankmajer, Czechoslovakia.

First published in 1865, Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is not only a much loved children’s book – it’s also one that’s been much adapted.

The first ever film version of the book was released in the UK in 1903; a short, silent film directed by Cecil Hepworth and Percy Stow.
