Tasmanian filmmakers hopeful after ALP promise

Fighting for power, the ALP commits to pumping up Screen Tasmania, and promises separate money to Wide Angle, as the fate of festivals remains unknown.

As Tasmania moves towards a knife-edge election on March 3, the ALP has included the screen sector in its arts policy. 

It will provide $100,000/year in funding to Wide Angle as ‘the independent hub for filmmakers.’ According to manager Abbi Binning, ‘To me it has been a no-brainer that governments should play in this sector. It is a great sign that the ALP is trying to leverage off the philanthropic funds we have already secured to keep Wide Angle alive.
