There are some lively films in the pipeline but Storm Boy has not set us up for a bumper year, at least so far.

How well has Storm Boy done? At first glance Storm Boy’s $4,301,027 in three weeks is pretty good. It is still on 305 screens though it lost 55% as soon as the holidays lost steam, so it is down to $1335/screen. The original made $16.3m in 2017 $, but in very different times, and this version won’t be memorable in the way of Kenny or Looking for Alibrandi or the various dog films. Even Red Dog, True Blue made $7.6m but all those films had broader appeal.
